Civil, military leadership resolve to consolidate hard-earned peace as terrorism on rise
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The National Security Committee (NSC) expressed resolve on Friday to consolidate the hard-earned gains in the country and deal with terrorism with an iron hand.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired the NSC meeting and it was attended by federal ministers Ishaq Dar, Khwaja Asif, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari. Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir, other services chiefs and spymaster Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum also attended the meeting.
The moot of the civil and military leaders comes as Pakistan has recently witnessed surge in terrorism cases after the TTP withdrew from the ceasefire agreement. Sources said the forum pledged to establish peace in every nook and corner of the country. It also resolved to ensure effective implementation of the National Action Plan.
The decision to call the NSC meeting was taken at a meeting between the prime minster and the army chief on Thursday. At the meeting, PM Shehbaz paid tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the recent terror incidents as the top guns pledged to crush the terrorism menace across the country, sources said.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar briefed the NSC meeting on the prevailing situation in Afghanistan and the contacts with Afghanistan’s interim government.
The NSC meeting made it clear that Pakistan s national interests will not be jeopardised at any cost, and no one will be allowed to harm the national sovereignty.
The basic priorities of Pakistan’s survival, security, and progress will be preserved with bravery, consistency, and perseverance.
Earlier on Wednesday, the two-day 254th Corps Commanders’ Conference resolved to fight terrorists without any distinction and eliminate the menace in line with the aspirations of the people of Pakistan. A comprehensive review of professional and organisational matters of the army was undertaken during the conference.
