Imran Khan sues Shahzeb Khanzada, Umar Farooq in UAE over Toshakhana gifts allegations

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has filed a defamation case against a private news channel, its anchor Shahzeb Khanzada and businessman Umar Farooq Zahoor in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for allegations regarding selling of gifts he obtained from Toshakhana, a state gift repository.

The PTI chief announced the development on Twitter stating, “My UAE lawyers led by Hassan Shad have now filed criminal defamation (libel and slander) proceedings under UAE law against Geo TV, Shahzeb Khanzada and fraudster Umer Farooq Zahoor”.

Mr Zahoor made the headlines after he appeared in Mr Khanzada’s programme and claimed to have bought Mr Khan’s Graff watch from Farah Khan, a close friend of the PTI chief’s wife Bushra Bibi, for around $2 million. It is the famous watch that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Suleman had gifted to Imran Khan during his visit to the kingdom.

On Dec 5, the former prime minister said he had started preparation to sue the news channel in the United Kingdom (UK) over allegations of selling an expensive wristwatch in the open market. Earlier this week, it emerged that Mr Khan allegedly bought expensive diamond jewellery gifted to him by foreign dignitaries during his tenure as premier for a trifling sum.
