'Butcher of Gujarat' - FM Bilawal trends on Twitter after befitting reply to Indian counterpart

LAHORE (Web Desk) - Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is being appreciated on social media for his befitting response to his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar for calling Pakistan the “epicentre of terrorism”.

The foreign ministers of nuclear-armed neigbours traded heated barbs after a meeting of the United Nations Security Council in New York earlier this week. Speaking to reporters after the UN meeting, Mr Jaishankar called Pakistan the “epicentre of terrorism”.

When the Pakistani foreign minister was asked to respond to Indian counterpart’s allegation, he said: “I want to tell India that Osama bin Laden has been killed while the butcher of Gujarat is still alive and he is the prime minister of India”.

Indian PM Narendra Modi was the chief minister of the state of Gujarat in 2002 when a number of Muslims were killed in religious riots. Modi was blamed for taking no action against the incident. Until his election as prime minister of Indian in 2014, he was not allowed to enter the United States due to the Gujarat incident.

The reply of the Pakistani foreign minister is being widely shared on social media as “Bilwal” has become a trend on Twitter.

A user wrote: “I have lots of political differences with Bilawal Zardari s politics but I really appreciate him for giving a befitting reply to India. Give credit where credit is due!!”.

Meanwhile, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has announced that it will hold protest across India against Bilawal s statement.
