Iqbal calls on universities to start offering entrepreneurship courses to lift economy
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - the federal minister for planning, development, and special initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal on Monday urged universities to act rapidly for the launch of new courses in entrepreneurship and exports for students as it would benefit the nation’s economy.
He was addressing the participants of the two-day 19th International Conference on “Frontiers of Information Technology” (FIT-2022), which was held at COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI).
The federal minister said that the value of information technology in the modern world, specifically for Pakistan’s economic development.
He emphasised the significance of information technology in the modern world, particularly for Pakistan’s economic development.
The minister also shared a seven-point framework for universities, academic excellence, research and innovation, social community service, technological empowerment, corporate governance, industry-academia connection, and product quality.
The Executive Director COMSATS, Ambassador Dr. Mohammed Nafees Zakaria praised the efforts of FIT organisers for giving researchers, scientists, and industry practitioners from all over the world, a prestigious platform to present their cutting-edge research.
He said that COMSATS has a focus on developing local aptitude and competency in cutting-edge sciences and technology.
Furthermore, the Commission is working to ensure that a significant portion of the population, particularly in the Member States, benefits from technological advancements in the fields of education, health, and energy.
The co-founder and CEO of Knowledge Streams (Private) Ltd. in Pakistan, Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi, gave a keynote speech to the guests, students, and technical specialists present.
Dr. Naqvi emphasized the significance of bridging the academia-industry divide in his speech titled “Bridging the Academia-Industry Divide” and outlined many projects that have produced creative solutions in modern Pakistan.
He emphasized on the key steps to follow for successful entrepreneurial ventures.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tabassum Afzal, rector of CUI in his welcome speech, expressed appreciation for the government’s assistance in promoting research and development.
He said that Pakistan lacked high-performance computing infrastructure and that greater training and resource management were necessary to unlock the economic potential of information technology.
According to Prof. Afzal, supporting IT-related exports and technology-based start-ups can quickly solve the economy’s cash shortage.
A two-day conference hosted by COMSATS University Islamabad is taking place at the COMSTECH Secretariat in Islamabad with speakers from France, the Netherlands, China, Ireland, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Pakistan.
The two days conference will comprise a series of invited talks as part of its technical program while and a Ph.D. symposium will provide Ph.D. scholars the chance to present their ongoing research and get input from industry professionals.
A panel discussion with the title “Make in Pakistan: Need Assessment for a Strong Policy to Strengthen Indigenization” will be held on the conference’s final day.
The conference is the 19th Annual event organized by COMSATS University consecutively in the last two decades has a very competitive acceptance rate among Pakistani IT circles.
Since its beginning, the conference has assisted the development of new IT fields, and this year it has attracted the interest of professionals from a variety of fields, including Software Engineering, Pattern Recognition, Image and Natural Language Processing, Data Science, Water Informatics, Smart Grid, Energy and Electronics, Signal Processing, and Cyber Security.
