NAB seeks respite in appeal against Zardari's acquittal
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has again on Monday sought respite for providing evidence in it’s appeal against PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s acquittal in four 25-year-old corruption references.
A two-member bench of the Islamabad High Court headed by Chief Justice Athar Minallah conducted the hearing. NAB has challenged Asif Zardari’s acquittal in SGS, Cotecna, ARY Gold and Ursus Tractor references.
The NAB again sought adjournment today despite being given a deadline by the court at the last hearing. NAB prosecutor said that one of the issues in the NAB appeals was that the prosecutors were not available in two appeals. One prosecutor is no longer in service and the other has been transferred, he added.
Chief Justice Athar Minallah asked the NAB prosecutor if he had seen the order dated November 15, 2021. What did the court say?
The NAB prosecutor said that he has been asked to appear today and request for adjournment. The court questioned whether the NAB was not interested in pursuing these appeals.
The NAB prosecutor replied that this was not the case and the Accountability Bureau wanted to follow up on the appeals.
Chief Justice Athar Minallah said that NAB has read the decision? If they had read it, they would probably not have filed an appeal, he further remarked.
The court adjourned the hearing till June 13.
