Two policemen martyred, 22 injured in two separate blasts in Quetta

QUETTA (Dunya News) - Two policemen were martyred while 22 others got injured in two separate explosions in the provincial capital of Balochistan.

At least two policemen were martyred and 21 others injured in first explosion near Quetta s Unity Chowk on Sunday evening, police sources said.

According to police, 13 police officials and 8 passers-by were wounded in the blast that targeted a police moblie. As soon as the blast was reported, security forces rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.

Police sources said that the explosive material was fixed in a motorbike in Unity Chowk area of Quetta. A Police vehicle was targeted in the attack.

On the other hand, rescue teams reached the spot and started rescue operations. The injured were transported to hospitals by ambulances. In view of the situation, an emergency was declared in the hospitals.

Later, another blast took place on Sariab Road in Quetta, injuring one person. Police sources said the miscreants had planted explosives under a wheelbarrow.

Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan has condemned the bomb blast near Serena Hotel and expressed regret over the martyrdom of police personnel. "Terrorist elements want to destroy the peace of the province," he said. We will never allow terrorists to succeed in their nefarious aims.

Provincial Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langu strongly condemned the attack on the police van and directed the concerned authorities to investigate the incident from all angles and submit a report.

He said that our brave sons sacrificed their lives for the peace of our homeland. The martyrs are cultivating peace with their precious blood. A handful of terrorists cannot shake the nation s resolve, he added.

The Home Minister said that we share the grief of the bereaved families. We extend our deepest sympathies to the effected families and the injured.

On the other hand, Balochistan government spokesman Liaquat Shahwani said that the explosives were planted in a motorcycle. The terrorists targeted the police van.

He said that emergency has been declared in the hospitals. Terrorists want to disrupt peace in Balochistan and spread fear and panic.

The government will not spare those involved in the terrorism activities to disrupt peace in the province, said minister.
