Ring Road scandal: Investigation team obtains evidence against 16 housing societies

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Anti-Corruption Investigation team has obtained evidence against 16 housing societies in the Rawalpindi Ring Road Project scandal.

It may be recalled that the design of Rawalpindi Ring Road was changed at the behest of influential people with the aim of benefiting the private housing societies around the project, which resulted in a loss of Rs. 25 billion to the national exchequer.

With the connivance of the land mafia and government officials, housing societies were flooded on the route of Ring Road project and then land was bought from them at exorbitant prices.

Former Land Acquisition Commissioner (LAC) Wasim Tabish paid around Rs 220 million to acquire 480 kanals of land.

According to the documents, 160 kanals of land was acquired from Sasti Basti Society for Rs 55.2 million. The land of influential housing societies was acquired at the rate of Rs 3 million per kanal.

The former LAC amended the law itself for Ring Road and made payments contrary to the directions of the Progress Review Committee. The inquiry committee also sought confirmation report from PMU and RDA.
