Hurricane threat developing off Karachi coast in the Arabian Sea

KARACHI (Dunya News) – A cyclone threat is developing in the Arabian Sea, some 1460 km south and southeast off the Karachi coast. Cyclone Tauktae is likely to cause thunderstorms and gusty winds in Karachi and its adjoining areas.

According to the Meteorological Department, the wind speed at the center of the storm is 70 to 80 km per hour and is steadily increasing to 100 km per hour.

The hurricane will move north and northwest towards Indian Gujarat and is expected to make landfall by May 18. The depression could transform into a storm by tonight.

The Meteorological Department said that due to this system, dusty winds and showers with thunder are likely. Rain, thunderstorms and dust storms are likely in Hyderabad, Karachi, Jamshoro and Shaheed Benazirabad from May 18 to 20.
