Karachi: Smart lockdown imposed in six UCs of Korangi

Unnecessary locomotion in the affected areas has been banned.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – In the wake of increasing coronavirus cases, smart lockdown has on Saturday been imposed for fifteen days in six union councils (UCs) of Karachi’s Korangi District.

Korangi DC issued the orders of smart lockdown on recommendations of district health officer. Nasir Colony, Bhittai Colony, Silver Town, Shah Faisal Colony, Drug Colony, Rafah-e-Aam Society and Al-Falah Society are among the affected areas.

Unnecessary locomotion in these areas has been banned while wearing facemask has been made mandatory. Furthermore, the individuals who test positive for COVID-19 will be quarantined at home.

On the other hand, Pakistan has reported 146 deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 825,519. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 17,957.

According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 4,696 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

Punjab remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic both in terms of cases as well as deaths followed by Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Till now 303,182 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Punjab, 283,560 in Sindh, 118,413 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 22,369 in Balochistan, 75,498 in Islamabad, 17,187 in Azad Kashmir and 5,310 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Furthermore, 8,500 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab, 4,645 in Sindh, 3,310 in KP, 236 in Balochistan, 683 in Islamabad, 476 in Azad Kashmir and 107 in GB.

Pakistan has so far conducted 11,836,866 coronavirus tests and 48,740 in the last 24 hours. 717,009 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas 5,490 patients are in critical condition.
