Maryam Nawaz Sharif's NAB appearance postponed indefinitely

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Just a day before PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz was due to appear before National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore, her appearance has been postponed indefinitely due to the worsening coronavirus situation.

A statement issued by the spokesperson of NAB Lahore said that in view of the instructions of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) and in the larger public interest, it has been decided to postpone the appearance of Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

According to the NAB spokesperson, the district administration has been directed to lift security measures taken ahead of March 26. The new date of Maryam’s appearance will be announced in due course.

The spokesperson said that NAB’s affiliation is only with the state of Pakistan and its people. It has no affiliation with any political group or party and it rejects the use of pressure tactics to influence the organization.

Earlier in the day, the Lahore High Court rejected the NAB plea to stop PML-N Vice-president Maryam Nawaz from coming to its office in the form of a rally.

The anti-graft body had moved the court in order to stop the PML-N leader from bringing her party workers at the NAB Lahore office where she was summoned for investigation in cases pertaining to Chaudhry Sugar Mills and illegal land transfer.

The court said in its remarks that every citizen is bound to follow the law which will come into force if any violation is committed by any individual.

On March 22, LHC had approved Maryam Nawaz’s interim bail till April 12 and barred NAB from arresting her.
