1100MW K-2 nuclear power plant connected to national grid

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission s 1100 MW nuclear power plant K-2 in Karachi has been connected to the national grid, Dunya News reported on Thursday.

Federal Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan has congratulated the nation on connection of this nuclear power plant to the national grid. In his message on Twitter, Omar Ayub said that currently 105MW electricity is being obtained from the power plant.

According to a statement issued by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, the K-2 nuclear power plant in Karachi is environment friendly and low cost per unit producing power plant. The power plant is being operated according to international safety standards

According to sources, K-2 is one of the two similar under-construction NPPs located near Karachi and will be inaugurated for commercial operation by the end of May this year. The other one K-3 is also in completion phase and expected to be in operational in 2022.
