PTI moves ECP to withhold notification of Gillani's win in Senate Election

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has requested the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to withhold notification of former PM Yousaf Raza Gillani’s victory in the Senate election.

The petition seeks disqualification of the PDM candidate as well as his son, Ali Haider Gilani, who was seen teaching MNAs the procedure to waste their votes in leaked videos. Ali Haider Gilani later admitted in a press conference that the leaked videos were indeed his.

The petition further says that Ali Haider Gilani persuaded members to waste their vote, a clear violation of Section 168 of the Election Act 2017. The alleged call made by Ali Gilani to Sindh provincial minister Nasir Shah was also cited in the petition.

It says that the Election Commission failed to stop corrupt practices in the Senate election, both Yousaf Raza Gilani and Ali Haider Gilani are involved in these practices. The ECP ordered re-polling in NA-75 on allegations of PML-N, similarly, the notification of Yousaf Raza Gillani’s victory should be withheld until the investigation committee submits its report.
