ECP removes Commissioner, RPO over controversial NA-75 by-election

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken notice of the by-election controversy in Daska’s NA-75 constituency and ordered the removal of Commissioner and RPO Gujranwala from their posts.

It has also been decided to suspend Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner, DPO Sialkot and SDPO Daska from their posts.

According to sources, the Election Commission has written to the Establishment Division for departmental action against others. ECP has summoned the Chief Secretary and IG Punjab for clarification. They have been summoned in-person on March 4, 2021 for neglecting their duties during the by-elections.

The Election Commission has directed to transfer Commissioner and RPO Gujranwala out of Gujranwala Division.

The ECP has also directed the federal government and the Punjab government to suspend Deputy Commissioner Sialkot, District Police Officer Sialkot, Assistant Commissioner Daska, DSP Sambarial and DSP Daska.

The Election Commission has ordered that these officers should not be assigned any election duty in the future. The ECP itself will conduct an inquiry against the officers involved.
