CM KP removes Minister Liaquat Khattak following by-election defeat

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Following a shocking defeat at the hands of PML-N in Nowshera’s PK-63 constituency, KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has removed Federal Defense Minister Pervez Khattak’s brother and Provincial Minister for Irrigation Liaquat Khattak.

On Friday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) suffered an unexpected defeat at its home ground of Nowshera at the hands of PML-N. The winning candidate secured 21,122 votes while the PTI candidate was second with 17,023 votes.

PTI was said to be under pressure after losing the by-election. Chief Minister KP Mahmood Khan took action and removed Provincial Minister Liaquat Khattak from his cabinet. He has been directed to resign immediately.

During the PK-63 election, Liaquat Khattak had backed PML-N candidate Ikhtiar Wali, prompting action against him from the government.
