Senate elections: ECP refuses to issue production orders for arrested leaders

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has refused to issue production orders for arrested political leaders, saying it is not in the jurisdiction of the ECP.

The Election Commission has adopted this position after PPP’s request. The PPP leadership has decided to write a letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly in view of the situation.

On the other hand, the Election Commission has also rejected the request for production orders of the arrested opposition leader Haleem Adil Sheikh in the Sindh Assembly.

PTI has condemned the decision and said that production order is the right of any parliamentarian. Not issuing production order is an example of slavery of Sindh government.

PTI has said that the Election Commission is playing the role of the B-team of the Sindh government, the national body failed in the by-elections. PPP wants to keep Haleem Adil Sheikh out of the Senate elections. Sindh High Court should take notice of the situation.
