Senate polls: PTI challenges nomination papers of Yousaf Raza Gillani

PTI leader Fareed Rehman has alleged Yousaf Raza Gillani of concealing the facts.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday has challenged Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Yousaf Raza Gillani’s nomination papers submitted for Senate elections.

PTI leader Fareed Rehman has alleged former Prime Minister (PM) of concealing the facts. Yousaf Raza Gillani has not mentioned his sentence in contempt of court case in his nomination papers, he added.

The PTI member further said that Gillani doesn’t fulfill the requirement of Article 62 of the Constitution.

Earlier, opposition parties had put forward the name of Yousaf Raza Gillani as a joint candidate of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) for the Senate polls.

On the other hand, the list of candidates contesting in Senate polls is likely to be published today while the scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on February 17 and 18.

The candidates can file appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers on February 20 and the last date for disposing of these appeals is 23rd of this month.

The candidates can withdraw their nomination papers on February 25 while polling for the forty-eight of the Senate seats will be held on the 3rd of March at the Parliament house Islamabad and the four provincial assemblies.
