PM directs to finalize proposed education policy in consultation with stakeholders

Roadmap should be implemented after identifying priorities, goals: PM

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed to finalize the proposed education policy at the earliest in consultation with provinces and other stakeholders to formulate a comprehensive roadmap in line with the requirements of modern times to promote education.

Chairing a meeting for the promotion of education, use of technology in the education system and skilled education, he said the roadmap should be implemented after clearly identifying priorities and goals.

Reiterating his resolve to take every possible measure for the promotion of education in the country, Imran Khan said education is the top priority of the government.

He said unfortunately, focus was not made on the education sector in past. He said majority of the country s population consists of young people, whose potential can only be tapped by providing them equal opportunities for modern education. He said it is vital to equip the youth with modern education to benefit from technology s revolution.

Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood apprised the meeting about reforms in the education sector, steps with the regard to distance language in wake of Covid-19 pandemic, starting of pilot projects regarding use of technology, initiation of  Skills for All  projects across Pakistan, digital literacy and promotion of knowledge economy.

Shafqat Mahmood briefed the meeting that his ministry is formulating Pakistan Education Policy 2021 under which special emphasis is being made on provision of equal opportunities for quality education, promotion of modern knowledge, and creation of job opportunities.

Dr Atta-ur-Rehman presented suggestions proposed on strategic action plan, while giving briefing regarding promotion of education through, accreditation from international organizations, and capacity building of teachers.
