Aerial search continues as K2 climbers still missing on third day

CHITRAL (Dunya News) - The aerial search operation to find Ali Sadpara and other missing climbers trying to scale the world’s most dangerous peak K2 continued for the third day without success.

According to rescue sources, the helicopters conducted search operation at an altitude of 7000 meters. If the weather is favorable, a search operation at even higher altitude is under consideration. However, rescue from ground route has been suspended due to bad weather conditions.

Earlier, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar described Pakistani mountaineer Muhammad Ali Sadpara as a national hero.

Talking exclusively to Dunya News, the ISPR chief said that Pakistan Army would not leave any stone unturned in the search operation for mountaineer Ali Sadpara, who is still missing along with two others during a K2 expedition.

Climbers John Snorri from Iceland, Juan Pablo Mohr from Chile and Muhammad Ali Sadpara from Pakistan lost contact with base camp on Friday.

Sajid Sadpara, son of Muhammad Ali Sadpara, who had last seen his father at K2’s final technical difficulty "bottleneck," said the chances of survival were bleak.

"The chances of surviving for two-three days at 8,000 (metres) in winters are very low," Sadpara told reporters.

On Friday a Bulgarian mountaineer was confirmed to have died on K2.
