Govt to bring legislation allowing immediate action against sedition, inciting revolt
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The government has decided to take immediate action against elements guilty of sedition or inciting rebellion against the state.
According to sources, the federal cabinet has approved necessary legal amendments on an emergency basis following the decision.
Sources say that the amendments have been approved by the federal cabinet through circulation and the power to register a case against sedition or incitement to revolt has been assigned to the Home Secretary.
Under section 196 of the Penal Code, the power of the federal government has been given to the Home Secretary, and the provincial governments will also be able to register cases of sedition against the state.
Sources said that the concerned court would not try the case registered without the approval of the Home Secretary. The case will be registered with the approval of the Home Secretary under Section 5 and Section 153-A.
