NEPRA postpones quarterly adjustment in electricity prices

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has postponed raising electricity prices on the pretext of quarterly adjustment. Chairman NEPRA expressed displeasure over the increase in capacity purchase price and directed the Central Power Purchasing Agency to provide complete details.

According to reports, a hearing was held under the chairmanship of NEPRA Chairman Tauseef H. Farooqi on Tuesday to review increase in electricity prices.

During the hearing, Chairman NEPRA expressed frustration over the incomplete details provided by the CPPA. He asked why IESCO’s capacity purchase price increased to over Rs 7 billion, to which the CEO of IESCO said that this question must be put before CPPA.

Chairman NEPRA was displeased with the absence of Chief Executive CPPA in the hearing. CPPA officials said that the CEO was in a meeting of the Ministry of Energy, at which Chairman NEPRA said that he should seek the money from the Ministry of Energy as well.

Chairman NEPRA inquired the reason behind increase in capacity purchase price from CPPA officials and directed them to provide complete details at the next hearing on December 1. Tauseef Farooqi said that if full details are not provided, they will take action against those responsible.
