PIA decides to sack 3500 employees to lower deficit

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Wednesday has decided to sack 3500 employees to lower its deficit and curtail its expenses.

According to details, voluntary separation scheme (VSS) has been introduced under which, the terminated employees will get their dues in 2.5 years.

The national flag carrier has also sought Rs12.87 billion from federal government in this regard.

The PIA administration said that this process will save Rs4.20 billion annually.  

On the other hand, PIA has announced Umrah policy for flights from Pakistan to Jeddah and Madinah, which will remain in force till December 31, 2020.

According to a statement issued by PIA spokesperson Abdullah Khan, the return fare of economy class from Karachi will be Rs 91,000 including tax. However, economy class fares from other cities in Pakistan will be Rs 96,000 including taxes.

The maximum weight limit of luggage in Jeddah and Madinah will be 36kg while executive economy class passengers will be allowed luggage of two bags at upto 40 kg. Additional baggage of 10 kg will also be allowed in case of infants.

Other than regular luggage, passengers will also be allowed to bring five liters of Zamzam water with them. PIA has also started booking for groups, which will require a group of at least 10 passengers.

All passengers will be allowed a free change-of-booking at least 7 days before the trip.
