Lahore Motorway rape proven in medical report, offenders still at large

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The medical report of the motorway gang rape incident has proven that the woman was indeed raped but the police are yet to track down the perpetrators.

Lahore CCPO Umar Sheikh said that samples of the victim were sent for testing and the medical report has confirmed the occurrence of rape.

The Lahore police chief shifted some of the blame to the victim, saying that she should have traveled on the GT Road instead of the motorway as it is less deserted late at night. He went on to say that if she had to take this route, she should have at least checked the fuel in her car.

Umar Sheikh said that the offenders broke the driver side window of the car, from which their blood samples were taken. He said there are three villages in a 5km radius of the area and so far, 14-15 people have been arrested for investigation.

However, despite many hours having passed after the incident, the police have not been able to trace the culprits. Sources said that DNA samples of 14 suspects have been sent to the forensic laboratory while geo-fencing of the crime scene has also been completed. Police have begun collecting data on factories and factory workers around the area.

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has said that he is personally reviewing the progress on the case while the Inspector General of Punjab Police has directed to bring the offenders to swift justice. The IGP said that a heinous crime has been committed and those responsible for this tragedy deserve a dreadful punishment in accordance with the law.
