Cabinet meeting reviews political and economic situation
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - A meeting of the Federal Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday reviewed the political and economic situation of the country. Participants were briefed on various economic indicators and findings.
According to sources, the Prime Minister took the Cabinet into confidence on the Karachi Transformation Plan. Briefing the Cabinet on the strategy for the passage of FATF Bills, it was informed that the mandate of the Cabinet Legislative Committee has been extended.
The meeting also approved the appointment of Chairman of the Federal Board of Education, recruitment of judicial officers on ex-cadre posts, LNG terminals in Port Qasim Karachi and launch of ferry service in the country.
NEPRA’s annual report for 2018 and 2019 was presented to the Cabinet. The meeting also ratified the decisions of the Economic Coordination Committee and the decisions of the Energy Committee on August 27.
According to sources, the meeting also approved the establishment of a Mass Transit Authority in Islamabad. Apart from this, the Cabinet was briefed on the progress of encroachment operations on Margalla Road and model shelters equipped with quality facilities. The meeting also decided to expand the scope of model shelters across the country.
The Cabinet appreciated the performance of Sania Nishtar and MD Bait-ul-Mal. The Prime Minister said that a welfare state can only be established by focusing on the welfare of the public.
The federal cabinet also approved extension of MD Bait-ul-Mal’s tenure. In addition, the Federal Cabinet has constituted a committee on the issue of ban on installation of electricity and gas meters in different areas of Islamabad in light of High Court decisions.
The committee includes the law minister, interior adviser, advisor parliamentary affairs and officials from the Ministry of Planning. The committee will present its recommendations to the cabinet in 60 days.
