Rain and floods continue havoc across Pakistan, multiple deaths reported
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Ten people, including three women, were killed and several others injured in rain related incidents including roof and wall collapses. The government has also issued a flood warning in River Indus.
A couple in Khushab, a woman in Bhakkar and a young man in Pind Dadankhan lost their lives in roof-collapse incidents while nine people were injured in similar incidents in Attock and Toba Tek Singh.
Increased inflow of water into the Chenab River has accelerated erosion in the lower reaches of Multan. Urban flood warning has been issued in five areas of Islamabad and a 45-foot-long boundary wall collapsed near the runway of the city’s Airport, damaging the wall of the Watch Tower.
Up North, Karakoram highway could not be fully restored even after four days due to landslides. Landslides also affected traffic flow in Abbottabad, Nathia Gali and Thandiani and rain water entered government offices in Dera Ismail Khan.
In Swat, the administration has issued orders to evacuate settlements along the river to avoid casualties. Two timber pickers were swept away in the Kalakot area of Matta due to flooding in the river.
Two people were injured when the roof of a warehouse and a wall in Marghzar collapsed in Mingora. The Deputy Commissioner has issued instructions to evacuate the people living along the river to avoid any loss of life.
Floods caused the most damage in Madin, Bahrain and Matta, where several villages have been flooded and people have started fleeing to safety. The floods have destroyed three communication bridges and six fish farms in Madin and a mosque in Bahrain.
