10 killed as heavy rain causes roofs collapse in Punjab

Heavy rain lashed Lahore and other parts of the country.

SHEIKHUPURA (Dunya News) - Ten people, including children, were killed and several others sustained injuries as heavy rain caused collapse of roofs in Sheikhupura, Phalia and Chiniot on Thursday.

Due to continuous rain, the roof of a madrasah collapsed. As a result, woman and her four children were killed on the spot while several others were injured. The Rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the injured people to the hospital.

A woman and her minor son were also killed while seven others were injured when the roof of their house collapsed at Malian Kalan village, Sheikhupura. In Chiniot, three people were injured in similar incidents.

Heavy monsoon rain lashed Lahore and other parts of the province on late Wednesday night. Heavy downpour in different areas inundated roads and streets in the provincial capital of Lahore and commuters faced immense difficulties while trying to carry on with their routines.

Several Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) feeders tripped due heavy rain in Lahore, which started on Wednesday night, plunging half of the city into darkness.
