Silence not an option, world must speak out for Kashmir: Mahathir Mohammad

KUALA LUMPUR (Dunya News) - Former Prime Minister of Malaysia Dr Mahathir Mohammad has said that he chose to stand with humanity when he spoke out for the people of Occupied Kashmir in the UN General Assembly.

Addressing a function in support of Kashmir in Kuala Lumpur, Mahathir Mohammad said he chose to speak for the people of Indian Occupied Kashmir despite being aware of the possible backlash to his decision. He said that in his mind, silence was not an option.

He further said that Kashmiris are forced to live under harsh military rule and the international community should take notice of Kashmiri people’s plight.

Dr Mahathir said that he was sorry that his speech affected Malaysia’s palm oil export to India but offered no apology for what he said during the controversial UN General Assembly speech.

He said that now that he had left office, he can speak freely and address the Kashmir issue without Indian threats of boycotts etc.

Responding to his statement, Prime Minister Imran Khan thanked Dr Mahathir Mohammad for speaking out in favor of occupied Kashmir.
