Ethiopian Airlines asks Pakistan for clarification over fake pilot licenses

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Ethiopian Airlines on Saturday sought clarification from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on the issue of some Pakistani pilots having suspected fake licenses.

According to details, Ethiopia has written a letter to CAA seeking clarification on the credentials and licenses of five Pakistani pilots working for Ethiopian Airlines. The pilots include Mian Tahir Rehan, Shehzad Aziz, Mohammad Jameel, Inamullah Jan and Mohammad Sohail.

The letter said that the like the rest of the world, the suspected fake licenses of Pakistani pilots has caused concern in Ethiopia as well.

The letter further said that the license holding pilots have previously worked in PIA for 30 years, with CAA licenses issued many years before the suspected fake licenses were awarded to certain pilots.

Prior to this, the United States banned PIA flights into the country over the issue of fake licenses of some Pakistani pilots.

It may be recalled that the government had issued a list of 262 pilots, including 141 pilots of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), who had suspected fake licenses.

On June 30, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) suspended PIA’s air operation permits for European countries for six months as well.
