Punjab government submits progress report in SC coronavirus suo moto case

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Punjab government has submitted a progress report on the coronavirus suo motu case in the Supreme Court.

The report submitted by Punjab government says that 628 ventilators were allocated for coronavirus patients across the province and over 11,000 tests are being carried out daily in the province. The report also states that safety equipment was provided to the not only health professionals but also cleaning staff deployed in dealing with coronavirus affectees.

With reference to the locust hoard attacks, the report said that the Rabi crop was not harmed by locusts. The locust attacks affected a total of 25,000 acres of Punjab’s cultivated land.

The report further says that according to the law, aid can be provided if 50% of the area is affected but no district of Punjab has recorded such levels of loss, as of now.

It says that the growth of locust hoards started in December 2019 from Cholistan and the impression of locust hoards dying down in cold weather proved to be incorrect. The report says that the government implemented an emergency to deal with locusts and purchased equipment on urgent basis.
