Plane crash: Investigation team returns from France with FDR, CVR analyzing report

At least 97 were killed when a PIA flight PK-8303 crashed in Karachi just before landing on May 22.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan team investigating the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane crash in Karachi on May 22 has returned from France on Sunday.

The team headed by Air Commodore Usman Ghani reached Islamabad on PIA flight PK-8734. They have brought with them important evidence and all other records including evidence collected from decoded flight data recorder (FDR) and cockpit voice recorder (CVR) of the ill-fated plane.

Earlier, Airbus had released preliminary information about the PIA plane crash in its ongoing investigation. The Airbus management informed the Pakistani government agencies about the preliminary information. Airbus officials say they have obtained important information from the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder of the crashed PIA plane.

Airbus Chief Product Safety Officer wrote a letter to PIA and other Airbus plane users, stating that an investigation into the PIA plane crash is under way and the analysis of flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder has revealed important information which will further help the investigation.

The Airbus letter stated that the Airbus administration is analyzing evidence based on what has been recovered at Le Bourget Lab.

The letter said representatives of the Pakistan Aircraft Accident Investigation Board were also involved in the investigation, cooperating fully with the investigation team, but Airbus did not have any specific safety recommendations for operators at this stage of the investigation.

Let it be known that at least 97 were killed and dozens others wounded after a PIA plane crashed with nearly 100 people on board in Karachi on Friday.

The PIA plane was close to landing when it came down among houses, sparking an explosion and killing several people on the ground.

The national carrier’s flight PK-8303 took off from Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport and crashed in Model Colony area in Malir, approximately 4 kilometers away from the airport.
