Naeemul Haque was co-founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan on Political Affairs passed away at the age of 70 years. He was also co-founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and has served as its Central Information Secretary and President of PTI Sindh.

Naeemul Haq was born in Karachi on July 11, 1949. By profession he was a banker and a businessman. He did Masters in English Literature from University of Karachi and LLB from SM Law College.

He was part of team that formed National Bank’s branch at UN Plaza in New York. In 1980 he moved to London as a merchant banker. He also worked as Managing Director of EuroAsia and Chairman of Metropolitan Steel. During his stay in London, he met Imran Khan and became his close friend.

In 1984 he returned to Karachi and joined Air marshal Asghar Khan’s Tehrik-e-Istiqlal and in 1988, he contested election from Korangi on its ticket.

In 1996 he laid foundation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). After his wife’s death due to cancer in 2008, he focused his attention on PTI. He is also credited with a successful rally of PTI in Karachi on December 25, 2011, which made PTI one of the leading political parties in the country.

Naeemul Haque moved to Islamabad in 2012 as Chief of Staff of Imran Khan. He also served as Information Secretary and member of core committee of PTI.

In 2018, he was diagnosed with blood cancer. After winning general elections, he was appointed as Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Affairs.
