Railway system is outdated and needs to be changed: Sheikh Rashid

Sheikh Rashid said that Prime Minister Imran Khan is fully aware of all the matters.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid on Tuesday said that the railway has an outdated system and it needs to be changed, while it also has mafia entrenched in its system.

Talking in Dunya News’ program “Dunya Kamran Khan Kay Sath”, he said that no minister ever wants himself to be linked with accidents. He added that the system will not improve until ML-1 gets completed, and railway tracks needs to be updated in order to have a smooth functioning. He went on to say that Prime Minister Imran Khan is fully apprised about all the matters.

Sheikh Rashid expressed that the unfortunate Tezgam Express blaze incident resulted in a huge loss to Pakistan Railways. However, Railways Minister also informed that they have received an enormous Rs16 billion payment from the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP), out of which Rs4 billion is allocated for ML-1 project.

Referring to Karachi Circular Railway, Rashid said that he will soon visit the metropolis, Karachi, and hold a meeting with the Sindh government as KCR is a plan of their provincial government. He said that 38km of area has already been cleared for the project whereas, an extended 6km has yet to be made available.
