License of IHCBA secretary suspended over PIC riot

The IHC has summoned the IHCBA general secretary for hearing on December 19.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) took notice of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) clash and suspended the license of Bar Association General Secretary Muhammad Umair Baloch for forcibly removing lawyers from the court during proceedings.

Chief Justice IHC Athar Minallah issued a notice in this regard, while also suggesting to launch a contempt of court proceeding against him. The IHC has summoned the IHCBA general secretary for hearing on December 19, and till then suspend his license. 

On the other hand, advocate Tariq Asad filed a constitutional petition in the Supreme Court over PIC riot.

Federal government, Secretary Punjab and IG have been made the party in the petition. The petition requested that strict action should be taken against the lawyers involved in the riot. “The licenses of lawyers and Punjab Bar officials involved in the incident should be suspended”, stated petition.

The petition read that the lawyer’s attack on PIC and its staff is a violation of Article 16. The attack damaged the property of the hospital building, and also affected the patients. The riot also led to loss of many valuable lives. It further stated the accused lawyers will pay the damages of PIC.
