"A large number of export shipments ready to be shipped have been confiscated."

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat and the senior superintendent of police (SSP) to appear before the court tomorrow in a plea filed against the massive seizure of containers by the law-enforcement agencies for resisting anti-government demonstration ‘Azadi March’.

In the petition, filed on importers and exporters behalf, they have expressed resentment that high scale import goods-laden containers have been detained by the law-enforcement agencies in different cities to block the main roads.

The advocate told the court that traders have imported fruit and vegetables from China, but police have confiscated their containers, causing a loss of millions of rupees.

Sources told the media that a large number of export shipments ready to be shipped have been confiscated to block main highways. As a result, truck and container companies have now been holding their remaining containers and trailers at their stations to avoid further confiscation.

Fearing the cancellation of export orders, many traders said, a huge amount of export shipments ready to be shipped as per the deadline given by the foreign buyers, would not reach the ports on time and it will not only result in huge losses to the exporters, but also to the national exchequer.
