European Parliament Committee expresses concern over situation in Kashmir

All members agreed to raise the issue of Kashmir in the EU parliamentary session.

BRUSSELS (Dunya News) - The Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament on Monday discussed the situation in India-occupied Kashmir where members of the condemned the Indian decision on occupied Kashmir and expressed concern over the situation in the valley.

According to Dunya News, European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs held an in-camera session to discuss tense situation in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir despite all the efforts of India to bar it from discussion on the issue.

The committee members condemned the revocation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir by India. They also expressed concern over the worsening situation of basic human rights, safety and security of the people in the occupied region, which has been under curfew since 05 August 2019. All members agreed to raise the issue of Kashmir in the parliamentary session.

On the other hand, Pakistan Embassy in Brussels in a message on twitter said that the Foreign Affairs Committee of the EU Parliament held an in-camera meeting and discussed the deteriorating peace and security as well as HR situation in IOK. MEPs condemned Indian illegal actions of 5 Aug & termed the HR situation in IOK as “Human Tragedy”.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Azad Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider while giving details of the meeting said that it was the first session of Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament to discuss the Kashmir issue. “This meeting of the European Union on Kashmir is a great success,” he said. He further said that India has to come to the negotiating table.

Raja Farooq Haider further said that the European Parliament has expressed concern over the tense situation in Occupied Kashmir. This concern and meeting is our major achievement.
