ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Election Commission has again postponed its verdict on a petition challenging the PML-N appointment of former PM Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz.

A bench, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Sardar Muhammad Raza, had reserved the verdict on August 1 and the verdict which was to be announced on September 3 will now be announced on September 4.

The date for the hearing has been changed due to the absence of one of the member of the tribunal.

Let it be known that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had on June 9 challenged Maryam Nawaz’s appointment as party vice president in the ECP.

PTI had adopted the stance that Maryam Nawaz is ineligible to hold any political or public office as she had been sentenced by the court in corruption reference.

Appointment of ex-PM Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam as party vice president was contradictory to the constitution and law, the plea stated.

On May 4, Maryam was appointed as one of the vice-presidents of the PML-N along with 15 other leaders, day after Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif stepped down as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

According to notification issued from London, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had been appointed senior vice president of the party while Ahsan Iqbal had been made general secretary.
