Heavy rain, power outages bring more misery for Karachiites

Mayor Karachi has advised people to stay away from power infrastructure during rain.

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Life in Karachi remained paralysed after heavy monsoon rain lashed the city on Wednesday. The heavy rain also caused power outages in most parts of Karachi, Dunya News reported.

Heavy downpour has caused flooding in various parts of metropolitan city and rainwater has accumulated on roads and all low-lying areas resulting in disruption in the traffic flow.

Prolonged power outages hit the city after the rainfall as most of the areas were deprived of electricity. The electricity crisis also affected water supply to a number of areas of the city.

According to K-Electric spokesperson, K-Electric has temporarily suspended power supply from 80 feeders as precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident.

Power outages hit most parts of the city and several localities, including Malir, Jafar Tayar Society, Khokarapar, Model Colony, Sarjani Town, Orangi Town, Korangi, Manzoor Colony, Mahmoodabad and Defence, remained without electricity on Wednesday night.

Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar has advised people to adopt necessary precautionary measures to avoid any untoward incident and stay away from power infrastructure including electricity poles and transformers during rain.

Meanwhile, Private Schools Association has decided to keep private schools closed in the Karachi today (Thursday) as Met Office has forecast more rain in the city.
