ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Thursday said that Pakistan wants peace and stability in Afghanistan because Afghanistan s peace is essential for the development of the entire region.

A delegation related to the Pak-Afghan Track II project headed by Dr Shoaib Suddle called on FM Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Islamabad.

During the meeting, matters pertaining to Pak-Afghan bilateral relations, Afghan peace process, bilateral interests and other issues came under discussion.

Speaking on the occasion, Qureshi said that there are historical, cultural and long-standing religious ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan, but unfortunately our bilateral relations suffer due to lack of mutual trust.

He said that President Ashraf Ghani s visit to Pakistan on June 27 gave these relations a new dimension. We discussed the promotion of bilateral trade cooperation.

“Pakistan respects sovereignty of Afghanistan and wants peace and stability because the peace of Afghanistan is essential for the development of the entire region,” he said.
