Nine die as torrential monsoon rain wreaks havoc in Karachi

People were forced to spend their night without light as several feeders tripped.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The ongoing spell of monsoon rain has badly disrupted daily routine in Karachi as the small streets and main roads have been inundated with the water.

The intermittent downpour has flooded Nazimabad, New Karachi, Sadar, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Airport, Gulistan-e-Johar, Malir, Sohrab Goth and Shah Faisal Colony whereas dozens of cars also broke down.

Reaportedly, at least nine people have lost their lives in separate rain-related incidents after which K-Electric urged the administration to declare emergency in the city.



According to details, 115 mm rain was recorded in the Landhi while area near airport received 115 mm shower that destroyed luggage bags in cargo department.

People were also forced to spend their night without light as breakdown hit Dhabeji, Gharo and NE pumping stations due to rain.

On the other hand, the officers of Pakistan army are also assisting the process to restore electricity by draining out the rainwater at KDA grid station.



Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Sindh (CM) visited various localities in the metropolis to monitor the post-rain situation. He also supervised the operation at the Korangi Causeway in which heavy machinery was used to rescue the people.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted another spell of the monsoon rain in Karachi today.
