Shehbaz Sharif to not quit PAC chairmanship: sources
The PML-N members have started consulting each other over the matter.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to reverse its move of the ‘planned’ resignation of the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Shehbaz Sharif from the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), sources familiar with the matter told Dunya News on Wednesday.
Earlier, the party nominated Rana Tanvir for the chairmanship of the parliament’s key accountability forum.
However, the matter has been postponed until Shehbaz’s return to Pakistan as Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed certain reservations, including that he was not consulted by the PML-N while nominating Tanvir for the chairmanship.
It is believed that without the consent of Bilawal, the PML-N cannot nominate any other member of the parliament for the designation.
In this regard, PPP senior leader Khurshid Shah has confirmed that Shehbaz will not resign from the chairmanship of the PAC.
Meanwhile, the PML-N members have started consulting each other over the matter.
The decision of Shehbaz’s resignation was made after he met the PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif, who is serving seven-year prison term after his conviction in December 2018 in a graft case, when he was on six-week bail on medical grounds.
Later, the party, which is the biggest opposition group in the parliament, announced to nominate MNA Rana Tanveer Hussain as the new PAC chairman.
