Accountability court judge Jawadul Hassan heard arguments of the NAB before announcing the verdict.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – An accountability court in Lahore on Tuesday ordered to shelve an inquiry – over an alleged illegal purchase of 28 plots in the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) – against Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

In this regard, accountability court judge Jawadul Hassan heard arguments of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore’s prosecutor and subsequently ordered to close the case.

The bureau had requested shelving of the inquiry against the two Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leaders, while the NAB executive board had also approved it. The bureau had filed references for final approval in the accountability court to formally close the case.

The prosecutor contended before the court that the bureau’s chairman had given his approval to close an inquiry against the Chaudhry brothers.

He said it transpired during investigation that it was the Chaudhry brothers’ employee who had purchased the plots and that no evidence was found to show their involvement in the scam.

“The decision to close the inquiry was taken during a meeting of the bureau’s executive board,” a spokesperson for the anti-graft watchdog said in a statement.
