LHC orders to submit report of judicial inquiry probing Sahiwal incident by next hearing

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) has sought a report from the judicial inquiry formed to probe into the Sahiwal tragedy on the next hearing of the case.

Meanwhile, the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) head, additional IGP Syed Ejaz Hussain Shah, submitted a report in the LHC.

LHC two-member bench on Tuesday resumed hearing of the petition filed by Jalil, brother of one of the victims Khalil, and Dolphin Force official Ehtisham, the brother of alleged terrorist Zeeshan Javed.

The prosecutor told the court that six police officers have been termed ‘responsible’ for the incident while Zeeshan has been declared terrorist in the findings of the report.

The report mentioned that Zeeshan had contacts with the terrorists belonging to the Islamic State (IS) among whom many were proclaimed offenders of Red Book.

In this regard, a case has been lodged against the accused police officers and a report has been submitted in the trial court.

The prosecutor further told the court that a list containing names of 63 witnesses in the case has also been submitted in the trial court.

Moreover, he maintained that the local court of Sahiwal has already summoned the accused on March 7, and judicial inquiry is probing into the incident and there was no need to form judicial commission on the matter.

To which, chief justice of the LHC asked the prosecutor that the judicial inquiry were to be completed within one month which ends on March 14, and subsequently ordered him to submit the report on the priority basis.

The court adjourned hearing of the case till March 18.
