The court asked how e-challan can be sent without amending the law.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday has sought explanation from Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Punjab Safe City Authority and Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) till March 13 in an issue regarding e-challan in Lahore.

During the hearing, the court asked how e-challan can be sent without amending the law.

The plaintiff said that e-challan is being sent to vehicle’s owner instead of the one who violates traffic rules.

It is to be mentioned here that under Safe City project, there are about 8000 cameras that are operational throughout the city. Every bike, car, or any other vehicle are checked to guarantee that all of them are following the traffic rules and regulations sternly.

In case if someone is found of breaking the law, his footage is sent to the city traffic police with the assistance of Excise Department.

The personal information of the person including the address is then identified and the electronic challan is sent through courier. However, if the person avoids paying the fine, his bike or car may be confiscated.
