Sahiwal tragedy: Controversy erupts over invitation sent to families for Islamabad visit

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Different stances of President House, Senate spokesperson, Senate Standing Committee on Interior and police has come forth regarding the alleged invitation given to affected families of Sahiwal tragedy for Islamabad visit.

Punjab Chief Minister’s spokesperson claimed that Rehman Malik invited Zeeshan’s mother and Khalil’s brother but did not meet due to shortage of time.
Senate Standing Committee on Interior’s Chairman Rehman Malik maintained that no official notice was issued to invite the families.
They will be called next week, he assured. The chairman recalled that the committee had demanded judicial inquiry over Sahiwal tragedy on day one.
Meanhwile, Forensic agency has asked home department to provide all evidence till Monday.
Earlier, the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has recorded the statements of another two eye witnesses, identified as Tayyab and Mahabat Khan, at police rest house.
Meanwhile, detained accused of Sahiwal, Sub-Inspector Safdar Hussain, Muhammad Ramzan, Hussnain Akbar, Ahsan Khan, and Saifullah could not be produced in the Anti-terrorism court (ATC) as they are in the custody of Counter terrorism department (CTD) but will be produced after taking into JIT s custody , Said JIT member Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Falak Shair.
A day after receiving report on Sahiwal tragedy from the Punjab government, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday summoned Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar to Islamabad to be briefed on the Sahiwal tragedy and the investigations in the case.

On Wednesday, Punjab Law Minister Muhammad Basharat Raja said the initial JIT report found no terror links of late Khalil family, and held the Counter Terrorism Department officials responsible for their killing in Sahiwal tragic incident.
The Minister said provincial government has relinquished Additional Inspector General CTD Operations (Punjab) and DIG CTD from their post, and told them to report to the federal government. He said that the SSP CTD and DSP CTD of Lahore region have been suspended.

Law Minister said that JIT chief Ejaz Shah had asked further time from the government to investigate the background of Zeeshan, who was also killed with the members of the Khalil family.
Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari had informed the National Assembly that FIR was registered against 16 people, responsible for Sahiwal incident, under Anti-Terrorism Act.
The minister said that 10 out of 16 accused were in uniform.
