NAB files appeals in IHC against Nawaz Sharif's sentence and acquittal
NAB expresses reservations on Sharif's acquittal and 7 year sentence in the appeals
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday submitted two distinct appeals at the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC); one against the acquittal of former premier Nawaz Sharif in the Flagship reference and the other for increase in his sentence in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference cases.
The anti-graft body has concluded in the appeal that since they had proved Sharif’s corruption with substantial evidences, acquitting him on the bases of doubts was against the Constitution.
The appeal expresses reservations on the seven-year sentence given to Sharif, and sustains that the sentence should have been given in accordance with Section 9(a) (5) of the National Accountability Ordinance, hence the convict must be imprisoned for 14 years.
Earlier, the court officials refused to accept both appeals because it were being filed late than official timings of the court.
However, the registrar office accepted them.
