SC rejects reports on Faizabad sit-in

The court ordered the relevant stakeholders to submit fresh report in the case

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court on Friday rejected reports submitted by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan Media Regularity Authority (PEMRA) and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) pertaining to the 2017 sit-in at Faizabad Inter-change by religious parties.

A two-member bench of the apex court comprising Justice Qazi Faiz Isa and Justice Mushir Alam conducted hearing of the suo-motu case and questioned whether the country will be run under the Constitution or through street power.

While giving his remarks, Justice Qazi Faiz Isa said that if the government doesn’t want proceeding of the case the case can be buried, adding that was curious whether the state is run by the government or street power. The deputy attorney general, appealed the court to adjourn the hearing as the attorney general was absent from the court today.

Justice Isa while expressing resentment remarked that what would be more important from this case which had blocked the entire country. He remarked that the attorney general was getting salary from public money and in this context he was responsible to be answerable.

Responding on PEMRA report, Justice Isa remarked whatever the court asked pertaining to the report you don’t have answer. He inquired if PEMRA had issued advisory for news channels. The justice inquired whether you have read the Article.

PEMRA Chairman Saleem Baig informed the court that he was a bureaucrat earlier and now has been appointed as chairman of the regulatory body. The regulatory body has no concern of the law and Article 19 has been used wrong. Justice Isa further remarked news channels give coverage to those who incite violence and burn public property.

The court while ordering the relevant stakeholders to submit fresh report in the case adjourned the case until November 22.
