GUJRANWALA (Dunya News) – Scores of enraged lawyers on Wednesday demonstrated protest across the Punjab, demanding to form new Lahore High Court (LHC) regional benches.

The protesters closed main gates of the district courts in Gujranwala and Faisalabad and also stormed office of Deputy Commissioner Sardar Saifullah Dogar who was chairing a session at that time.

The lawyers damaged chairs and police mobile in the court premises, claiming that formation of benches was their basic right.

Meanwhile, Punjab government spokesman Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan termed lawyers’ attack on DC office as deplorable and urged Chief Justice for Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar to take notice of the incident.

He also announced to hold investigation into the matter at government level.

Earlier, lawyers staged a march, while holding placards and banners, towards the LHC chief justice’s courtroom despite being stopped by the police personnel.

They raised slogans for establishment of LHC regional benches and also warned to shut the district courts if the demand was not met.
