Talks between the health authorities and the Young Doctors Association (YDA) failed in Islamabad on Saturday. At least 33 patients have died so far in various cities for not receiving emergent medical assistance. The Punjab government has started fresh recruitment of doctors, announcing that the resignations of the protesting doctors would be accepted instantly.The doctors’ strike has entered 33rd day on Saturday, creating problems for the poor patients. The death rate due to lack of necessary medical assistance has been soaring as five patients have died in Allied Hospital, Faisalabad, six patients died in Rawalpindi, 21 in Nishtar Hospital, Multan, while a minor girl died in Victoria Hospital, Bahawalpur.The doctors have announced that OPD and operation theatres will remain closed in hospitals while the Punjab cabinet has decided to terminate the doctors who will fail to attend their duties.At least 16 new doctors have been appointed in Mayo Hospital, Lahore, while a petition has been moved in the Lahore High Court, seeking registration of murder cases against the officials of the Young Doctors’ Association, holding them responsible for the death of patients.
