PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday suspended execution of death-row of prime culprit Arsh in Amjad Sabri murder case.

The culprit was handed death sentence by a military court.

Arsh’s legal counsel held that accused was not given right of fair and free trial. Upon hearing arguments from both sides, PHC suspended death sentence of main accused and adjourned hearing till September 12.

Arsh was accused of killing renowned qawwal Amjad Sabri in Karachi when the deceased was on his way to record programme in Ramazan transmission.

The qawwali maestro was shot dead by motorcycle-borne gunmen in Karachi’s Liaquatabad back in 2016.

Embraced widely as a part of Pakistan’s national identity, qawwali has played a key unifying role, with city-dwellers and villagers flocking to Sufi shrines for concerts.
