Naqeebullah Murder Case: Rao Anwar granted bail
The court also ordered the ex-cop to submit surety bonds of Rs1 million
KARACHI (Dunya News) – An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday granted bail to former senior superintendent of police (SSP) Malir Rao Anwar in case pertaining to alleged extra-judicial killing of a 27-year-old boy Naqeebullah.
Announcing judgement reserved on July 5, the court granted bail to ex-SSP Malir Rao Anwar in case pertaining to alleged extra-judicial killing of a 27-year-old boy Naqeebullah.
The court also ordered the ex-cop to submit surety bonds of Rs1 million.
However, despite granted bail, Rao Anwar won’t be released as the decision of bail is yet to come against him in another case.
Later, talking to media outside the court, Rao Anwar said that he had not done anything, adding that he has been dragged in the case.
He said that the prosecution lawyer told the court that the ex-Malir SSP had confirmed killing of Naqeebullah and his friends two hours before shootout.
Mehsud, a 27-year-old hailing from South Waziristan, was gunned down on January 13 in Shah Latif Town by alleged ‘encounter’ with a police team headed by Rao Anwar, however; preliminary probe suggest that Mehsud was killed in cold blood and had no terror links.
His killing sparked a social media outcry, as his family members rejected claims by authorities that he was a member of the Tehreek-e-Taliban, saying he was an innocent aspiring male model.
