SC expresses concern over hiking fuel prices
The process of import of petroleum products seems suspicious, CJP said.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday has expressed concern over hiking petroleum products’ prices and directed the authorities to submit explanation.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar conducted hearing of the suo motu case.
During the proceedings, CJP said, "Instead of giving relief to the people, you are making it hard for them to survive." He commented that time to time tax implementation is a burden on underprivileged people.
The process of import of petroleum products seems suspicious, he added.
The top judge has also directed to take assistance from unbiased experts in this regard.
Earlier, the caretaker government had hiked fuel prices for the second time in a month ahead of general elections 2018.
The petroleum price was reached Rs99.50 per liter after an increase of Rs7.54 per liter while the cost of high-speed diesel was recorded as Rs119.31 after a hike of Rs14.
Light diesel sold at Rs80.89 after Rs5.92 increase while kerosene price became Rs87.70 after Rs3.36 hike.
